The City Limits Hotel works closely with our friends at Little Lon Distilling Co. As a guest of City limits you can visit our friends at the Little Lon Distillery, just a stones throw from the hotel, and receive a 10% discount on your initial drinks order. Whilst offering outstanding gins they also offer an interesting insight into the history of the area. Little Lon, where the Distillery was founded in 2018, was once the 'notorious' north-east corner of Melbourne, a sight to behold in the 1850s. Its colourful past - specifically, a deep shade of harlot red - made it a magnet for the debauched, where wanton wenches and liquored-up larrikins lurched down its lamp-lit lanes. The cottage itself which is the last standing cottage from that time was home to mesmerising Chinese lady named Yokohama who ran it as a brothel back in 1920s. 

Brad Little, the manager, explains that - 

"Lon Distilling Co. is a small gin and spirits distillery located in a heritage listed red brick cottage (c1877) in Melbourne’s CBD. Once the slums and red light district of Melbourne, the Little Lon District was a place to both celebrate and commiserate while forging a life best lived. Drinks were poured, deals were made, arguments thrown and laughter abounded. Today we pay tribute to the lively characters who once lived in the laneways of Little Lon, distilling a range of small batch gins, very much influenced and inspired by the energy of this great city. It’s our way of keeping Melbourne’s spirit alive. "
